Urban Catalyst (UC) is an interdisciplinary platform for research, projects, public interventions, conferences, exhibitions and publications. UC aims to foster public discourse on contemporary urban issues and develop concepts and strategies for planners and architects.

As a main issue ifau - institute for applied urbanism investigates the possibilities to translate urban difference and diversity into architectural and urban space. All projects aim to involve and inscribe contextual processes creating space for negotiation in the design. Flexibility and specificity are characteristics of the generated models. Designed space is formed by negotiation or for negotiation to enhance the practical value of its everyday performance.

Urban drift is a network for the development of trans-cultural urban strategies. Concentrating on urban voids, gaps and residual, or peripheral zones and public spaces, members of urban drift act as tacticians for a contemporary urban praxis, developing a discourse within Berlin as one of the primary cities of flux.
